In January 2004, stage one of Rio Tinto Iron Ore’s expansion works to the Dampier port commenced. The first stage of the project was to increase capacity to 95 Mtpa.

Monadelphous was awarded the construction contract for the car dumper facility and associated ore conveying systems, a vertical construction package comprising: drafting, fabrication, surface treatment, supply, installation and commissioning of structural, mechanical, piping and electrical works.

In an environment of unprecedented materials and labour shortages, a workforce peaking at 250 was assembled. All shutdowns were completed on time and without lost time injuries or delays. This project was completed in June 2006.
