Rio Tinto Iron Ore: Cape Lambert Upgrade 80MTPA Project, Western Australia

Rio Tinto has recently awarded Monadelphous the structural, mechanical and piping contract for the upgrade to the Cape Lambert deep water port facilities. This project was approved in February 2007 and will further increase the rated capacity of the port to 80Mtpa.

The work scope covers a new reclaim conveyor, surge bin facility and the modification of the existing outleaping conveyor system to incorporate the new surge bin facility. The works also include extending the existing wharf conveyors and decommissioning / removal of the existing Lump Rescreening Plant LRP1 circuit.

    This project is tightly scheduled to meet a completion date of December 2008. To complete this project within the schedule it is anticipated that a team of 150 will be on site with the addition of night shift during the planned shutdown.
