Queensland Alumina: Calcination Project, Queensland
In May 2002 Monadelphous was contracted to design, supply, erect and commission hydrate and alumina conveyor systems for this 3.78 mtpa alumina refinery at Gladstone, Queensland.
The work entailed all associated structural, mechanical and piping works, including full-enclosed and open-belt conveyor galleries; airslides; a fire-fighting system; transfer towers; bag houses for dust control and the hydraulic and lubrication systems. The project demanded high levels of skill, expertise and safety provisions. The works involved high crane lifts of large clad conveyor galleries over thickener tanks and erection works under hot rotating plants. All of these tasks needed to be carried out with plant fully operational, with full production output maintained. Despite these constraints, Monadelphous delivered efficiently and to a high standard, with an excellent safety record.
