BHP Billiton Iron Ore: Rapid Growth 4 - Refurbishment of Rail Car Dumper 2, Port Hedland, WA

Following the successful completion of earlier RGP projects, Monadelphous has secured the contract for the civil, structural and mechanical works associated with the refurbishment of rail car dumper number 2.

The project comprises significant modifications to the current car dumper to increase its throughput capacity. The project, which commenced in late June 2007, involves a shutdown of the car dumper, requiring a team of 220 personnel across two shifts, at the height of the shutdown.

The removal of over 1,000 tonnes of concrete has provided significant challenges for the project team. Monadelphous has undertaken this work without the use of subcontractors, which has allowed increased control over this tightly scheduled project.
